I have worked in the construction industry for nearly 30 years as both a contractor and an owner’s representative. After studying engineering, I learned from my own experience by starting as a carpenter’s apprentice and working my way up to superintendent. After 11 years working for a general contracting firm, I began my own consulting business to serve owners of commercial and residential properties. In addition to superior management skills, I have a hands-on understanding of each trade involved in the building process. I bring my values as an owner’s representative to the process of general contracting by looking out for the owner’s interests during all phases of design and construction.
My experience with construction and renovation of a wide range of building types includes:
• Laboratory buildings for R&D, academic, and manufacturing facilities involving fabrication and renovation of major
systems and specialized equipment.
• Construction of new mixed-use buildings containing retail, restaurant, and office facilities, including a multistory steel
frame building located on a busy, downtown intersection.
• High-rise office building (15 story) interior remodel, including double shift work in an occupied facility.
• Large scale renovation in an upscale shopping center, including restaurants, markets, retail, and photo lab.
• Non-ferrous building constructed entirely of fiber-reinforced plastic, plus underground laboratory.
• Seismic renovation and restoration of a historic theater in a busy, downtown location.
• Unique multi-million dollar “Tuscan villa” in Atherton.
Between 1993 and 2004, I owned and operated my own business, Facility Management Services, providing construction management support for the following clients:
• Buttner Properties, Oakland (maintenance, tenant improvements, new facility design & construction)
• $2M residence, Palo Alto (conflict resolution with troubled developer for homeowner, successful completion of project)
• $5M residence, Atherton (owner’s representative during and after construction of home)
• $1M residence, Redwood City (owner’s representative during initial construction phase)
Prior to 1993, I worked for the following employers:
’92–’93 Buttner Properties, Oakland, California
’91–’92 Roma Construction, Santa Clara, California
’81–’91 Jack & Cohen Builders, Palo Alto, California
My college and professional education includes the following degrees and courses:
